About this event: 

The Singaporean Government has long had a reputation for forward thinking, openness to new ideas and agility. In moments like the COVID crisis, many of these strengths became evident and were widely admired and respected.

However these capabilities did not arise overnight, they are strengths that were decades in the building.

So how does Singapore learn? And as we enter into an era of policy experimentation by necessity, what lessons can policymakers draw from Singapore for our own cities and countries?

Join us for a candid reflective conversation with a collection of Singaporean futurists and educators eager to share their observations and ask more questions with you.

Aaron Maniam

Aaron’s current work at MCI involves overseeing policy on the digital economy, building societal digital literacy, digital regulation and public sector broadcasting in a digital age. He is currently completing a PhD at the Blavatnik School, which involves a comparative study of the digital transformation of public sector agencies in Estonia, New Zealand and Singapore.

Jeanette Kwek

Jeanette is the Head of the Centre for Strategic Futures, an internal think-tank for the Singapore government focused on developing insights into future trends, discontinuities and surprises. She is a political scientist and economist by training. he is married with two young children, and nurses a dangerous addiction to coffee, and the written word.

Cheryl Chung

Cheryl Chung heads the executive education department at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and together with a team, is building the futures research and teaching capabilities at the School with the ‘Future Ready Singapore’ project. Her interests focus on the intersection of technology, economic and regulatory policy and on capability development in futures thinking for policy makers.
